Guidelines for the safe and appropriate use of PrimeStore® MTM.

PrimeStore MTM contains a proprietary blend of reagents including guanidine that are generally safe unless ingested or placed on mucous membranes (Health Rating 2 and Physical Hazard 0). Do not drink, inject, or inhale PrimeStore MTM, or any other products that act as disinfectants, for the prevention or treatment of Covid-19. PrimeStore MTM may cause irritation to skin, eyes, or respiratory tract and should be washed off with water to prevent prolonged contact.
Not be used with the Hologic Panther System.
PrimeStore MTM should not be used with the Hologic Panther System due to a disinfecting step involving bleach that is specific to that platform. Like most lysis buffers and nucleic acid purification reagents, this device contains guanidine. Bleach and guanidine create cyanide gas, which is why most molecular lab protocols use ethanol-based decontamination and cleaning solutions rather than bleach.
Bleach should be avoided for clean-up for most molecular tests and nearly all extraction reagents containing guanidine. Sample collection devices that claim inactivation/ and or stabilization that list their ingredients as proprietary should be considered to have guanidine and other potentially reactive chemicals.
Not intended for preserving morphology or viability of microorganisms.
This type of device consists of a container and reagents intended to stabilize microbial nucleic acids in human specimens for subsequent isolation and purification of nucleic acids for further molecular testing.
